An Experimental Drug for Crohn's Disease
CCX282-B, also known as Traficet-EN®, is an investigational oral drug that is intended to target the underlying cause of Crohn's disease. Taken in by mouth , this promising new agent is undergoing evaluation in an international clinical trial being conducted by leading physicians at clinical sites in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Israel, South Africa and selected countries throughout Europe. Prior to the current study, five clinical trials have been completed so far with CCX282-B and 250 people have received the drug to date.
How does it work?
CCX282-B has a mode of action that addresses Crohn's disease in a completely different way than current treatments. CCX282-B is designed to block the inappropriate activity of specific immune cells in the intestine that cause inflammation and lead to Crohn's disease symptoms. Inflammation in the small intestine is believed to result in the flare ups of abdominal pain, cramps, weight loss and diarrhea associated with Crohn's disease.
